Good News! Philippine Military and Police Obtain Additional Budget for Next Year! The military will get an additional budget of P2,093 billion and an additional police officer of P1.73 billion for next year after Congress's two-chamber conference committee approves budgets from two security agencies with a combined additional funding of P3,823 billion.

Under the ratification version of the 2020 General Allocation Law, the budget of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) increased from P190 billion to P192 billion while the budget of the Philippine National Police (PNP) rose from P185.9 billion to P187.6 billion.

This allocation is part of the P4.1 trillion national budget proposed for next year.

For AFP, bicam increased the Navy budget by P27,485,000, Army by P995 million, Air Force by P500 million, Headquarters P175 million, Civil Defense Office by P15 million and additional P132.8 million for secretary offices and P15 million for purchasing arsenal.

On PNP, on the other hand, maintenance budgets and other operational costs from the national police station received an additional P101.75 million. Other improvements not specified in the approved budget version.

During the budget discussion, BIIC re-aligned the funds and added P1 billion each to the AFP and PNP allocations for their camp development funds.

The modernization of the AFP and PNP is one of the priority programs of the Duterte administration.

The allocation of funds is part of the disaster fund in the proposed national budget P4.1-trillion for next year.

However, lawmakers reduced funds by P4 billion to P16 billion, although money for the construction of the City of Marawi was maintained.

In his budget proposal, President Duterte has proposed P20 billion for assistance and reconstruction in the event of a disaster.

The fund is part of the 2019 national budget and its validity will expire at the end of the year.

Of the P5.1 billion allocated for urban rehabilitation, only P871.7 million, or 17 percent, was used last month.
