Behind the Scenes: What Do Chennai Sex Workers Desire? | The Quint

This behind the scenes video of the documentary on sex workers in Chennai is to give you a sneak peek into what goes into the making of a story such as this. Since there is no designated red-light district in the city, the biggest challenge was to find women who were willing to share their story. I spent a couple of nights driving down to the key areas of the city to find sex workers. I got in touch with a few middle-aged and elderly women who have been part of the sex work industry for decades to understand their struggles, dreams and desires. Another challenge in production was figuring out visualisation while still concealing their identities. We shot stylistically, experimented with shadows, and played around with illustrations.
