Vaping Nicotine and Cannabis: An Adolescent Epidemic with Long-Lasting Effects

Vaping Nicotine and Cannabis: An Adolescent Epidemic with Long-Lasting Effects Guest: Angeline Dukes, Department of Neurobiology and Behavior, UCI

Nicotine dependence is the leading cause of preventable death worldwide. Despite cigarette use decreasing over time, there has been a huge increase in nicotine consumption via e-cigarettes, especially among teens. With the legalization of cannabis for medical/recreational use in many states, it is also becoming more easily accessible for teens. In this talk Angeline discusses how her research gives insight into the long-term effects of using one or both of these drugs of abuse during adolescence. She also shares how being exposed to the same drugs can differentially impact males and females. Finally, she elaborates on how a history of drug use can impact potential therapeutics for those trying to quit.
