1) India May Sign Deal For 20 percent Cheaper LCA Jets At DefExpo-2020

India is likely to finalise the INR 40,000 crore contract for 83 Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas jets, 20% cheaper from previously quoted price, next February at DefExpo-2020 event in Lucknow city, Uttar Pradesh state.

In November 2016, Defense Acquisition Council (DAC), India's highest decision-making body on procurement, approved purchase of Tejas Mark-1A fighters by the IAF at a cost of Rs 50,025 crore.

Subsequent negotiations between defense ministry, Indian Air Force (IAF) and manufacturer Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has helped bring down the price of the jets from INR 50,025 crore to INR 40,000 crore, Indian media reported late last week.

"The draft contract of the deal has been readied by the HAL and the cost of the deal has now come down to around Rs 40,000 crore. This is Rs 10,000 crore less than the Acceptance of Necessity given by the Defense Ministry in 2016," defense sources said.

In December 2017, the IAF had issued a single-vendor tender to the HAL for procuring 83 LCA, but the negotiations and other related issues have been going on since then mainly due to issues over the price.

2) QRSAM clears developmental trials heads towards User trials, induction 2021

DRDO has confirmed that Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile System (QRSAM) which was recently test-fired with live warhead against a maneuverable target in full configuration and combat deployment mode has completed developmental trials successfully and will soon be available for user trials in 2020 before missile system is cleared for production in 2021. QRSAM Air Missile System (30km) can operate on the move and has been designed to move with strike corps which is principal offensive formations of the Indian army. QRSAM weapon system is made up of fully automated Command and Control System, Active Array Battery Surveillance Radar, Active Array Battery Multifunction Radar, and Launcher.

Both radars are four-walled having 360-degree coverage with a search on move and track on move capability. QRSAM Air Missile System which was specifically developed for the Indian Army will provide air security to the Indian army’s strike corps against all possible aerial threats of the enemy while operating in the hostile areas in a full-scale war. QRSAM Air Missile System is also a critical component of India’s Cold Start doctrine.
