The texts, which were provided to Congress by former special envoy to Ukraine Kurt Volker, seem to show US ambassadors negotiating a deal with Ukraine whereby Ukrainian president Zelensky would commit to carrying out investigations that could help President Trump politically: an investigation of alleged Ukrainian interference in the 2016 US election, and an investigation of Joe Biden and Hunter Biden's dealings in Ukraine. In exchange, President Trump would agree to host President Zelensky for a White House visit. President Trump has asserted there was no quid pro quo in his relations with Ukraine.
