Salman Khurshid On Triple Talaq Bill: Why Not Strengthen Muslim Law Instead?

Salman Khurshid On Triple Talaq Bill: Why Not Strengthen Muslim Law Instead? Salman Khurshid, lawyer and politician and former external affairs minister, argues in his new book that the BJP is pushing the triple talaq legislation but avoiding the real issue of the empowerment of women, especially those who are abandoned. “The real intention is clearly to chip away at the personal laws and bring in the Uniform Civil Code,” he writes in his new book Visible Muslim Invisible Citizen-Understanding Islam in Indian Democracy. The book is a wide sweep of issues facing Indian Muslims and looking at the contribution of Muslims to the republic.

It also explores the dilemmas facing Muslims of the country in the present.

In a wide ranging discussion with Sidharth Bhatia, Khurshid goes over some of the main issues explored in the book. The discussion was held in Mumbai under the auspices of the Asia Society.
