Prince Charles to face popularity crisis upon taking the crown – 'Not as liked as Queen'

Prince Charles is expected to become the next king of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland after his mother Queen Elizabeth II passes away. While the current sovereign has come to be a widely admired monarch globally, her son has been warned he may not enjoy the same levels of popularity as his mother. Speaking to Yahoo's The Box, royal expert Tim Ewart said: "The reality for the monarchy is that when the Queen dies one of the reasons for the monarchy’s popularity will be gone. "A large part of the popularity of the monarchy is based on the personal popularity of the Queen." According to a survey of 9,44 British adults YouGov carried out between June 218 and June 219, the Queen is the most popular member of the Family and the second most famous. A similar poll carried out in the same period of 9,287 people placed Prince Charles in seventh place – behind both his sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, their respective wives Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge and Meghan Markle, and his own father Prince Philip. Mr Ewart continued: "Will that popularity transfer to her son? An open question, we don’t know.  How Prince Charles ‘couldn’t face royal grandchildren’ without key pursuit  "There are suggestions that he’s not as popular as she is. We know that." The royal expert also suggested Prince William and Prince Harry have helped increase the popularity of the Family with an increasing amount of official appearances. He added: "I think what they have done is appeal very greatly to a younger generation which is what the Queen wanted." Prince Charles has been closely shadowing his mother the Queen since he received the title of Prince of Wales in 1969 but he has increasingly taken on more duties over the past few years.    author Phil Dampier said earlier this month: "He is starting to do that already, being at the state opening in Parliament and the Commonwealth conference. "He is starting to take over a lot of the duties and doing the investitures." And Prince Charles' eldest son William has also been seen taking on a larger role alongside wife Kate, Duchess of Cambridge by nature of his position in the pecking order.  Commentator Juliet Rieden said: "Prince William is going to be king one day.
