Empowering Interabled Couples to Be Self-Sufficient and Independent

Empowering Interabled Couples to Be Self-Sufficient and Independent Although this interabled couple is open about their relationship, Zachary Holler shares that, for them, privacy and “having space” are essential to have a normal life. Leaning on others to learn (rather than simply doing it for them) in order to foster self-sufficiency can be key to empowerment and independence. Simply stated, don’t assume the couple needs help and that they don’t know how they want it done. Please comment below or visit More notes/links about this video and others in this series...

In this question and answer session related to disability and relationships, Zach Holler shares his response to the question, “What advice would you give someone (family/friends) supporting a couple living with disabilities?”

In the series, couples discuss ways in which they have navigated dating, marriage, and faith in the context of disability and caregiving. Topics covered include quirky questions people ask when you are dating with disabilities, the importance of finding a supportive faith community – and the journey of simultaneously becoming life partners and care-receivers/givers.
