Like Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, the Gandhi Gudi (Gandhi temple) at Peddakaparthy village in the mandal, has slowly emerging as a landmark, witnessing more visitors each year. But it’s not just on Gandhi Jayanthi and Vardhanti, but round the year.

Built by the Mahatma Gandhi Charitable Trust, a Guntur-based voluntary organisation in 2014, the temple has the Father of the Nation’s autobiography Satya Sodhana leka Atmakatha (the Telugu version of Gandhi’s My Experiments With Truth in the garbha griha (sanctum sanctorum), among other holy scriptures.

Sitting in a yogic posture on the temple’s first floor, the Gandhi idol made in black stone, is served by two priests on a daily basis. Students, villagers and Gandhi enthusiasts are regular visitors apart from highway travellers.

According to members of the trust, the temple is a symbol to promote Ahimsa and serves as a one-stop centre to learn about Gandhian ways.

Built in nearly four-and-half acres, the temple reflects everything about Bapu - his sayings painted on the steps, a collection of his books, exclusive Gandhi hymns and a dharma chakra at the entrance.

Gandhi.
