Ferdinand Maria of Bavaria: Recovery from War

Ferdinand Maria of Bavaria: Recovery from War While his father had led Bavaria into The Thirty Years' War, Ferdinand Maria would make sure that this was followed by thirty years of peace. He carefully balanced his relations between the Habsburgs and the French, giving him and his country time to recover from the previous conflict. Thanks to Ferdinand's skillful development of the economy, the country soon grew quite wealthy, allowing him to spend the excess money on great art and building projects. In this respect, he was greatly helped by his wife, Henriette Adelaide, who brought with her the Italian Baroque from her native Savoy.
