Government announces trial schedule for rates it will pay companies for renewable energy Solar power providers can now breathe a sigh of relief after the Ministry of Economic Affairs announced a trial schedule for the fees it will pay companies for renewable energy. Owners of ground-mounted solar power installations will see a price drop of 3% to NT$4.1 per kilowatt hour of electricity. The 3% drop compared to last year''s drop of 12% is far less than what the industry feared. Yet the ministry''s Bureau of Energy stressed these rates are only trial and the final rates will be announced as early as next week. The Ministry of Economic Affairs estimates that the solar power feed-in tariff rate starting next year will be lowered from a current NT$4.4 per kilowatt hour down to NT$4.1 in a drop of 3%. Executives in the solar power industry said that last year’s average decrease of 12% made them unable to develop low-priced renewable energy as the costs were becoming too high. They were afraid the same thing would happen again this year. Various companies this year have been reviewing all data relating to their costs. Voice of Kuo Hsuan-fuPV Generation System Association of R.O.C.For ordinary, simple ground installations, they may feel that a drop of 3% is acceptable. I feel that the degree of the drop is related to the business models each of the companies are developing. The ministry stresses that this fee schedule is not official, with official rates to be announced next week at the earliest.
