How long does a scene last for? Short answer ... Depends.
What does it depend on?
- How many times you have played
- What has been negotiated
- How well the players know each other
- If there is anything new being tried in the scene
- What do the players define as 'play'
- What do the players define as 'aftercare;
This question was from an age player who said that 'aftercare' started after 10 minutes.
I know that for many who play publicly there are definite 'ends' to some scenes which become 'ritualistic'.
The Unbinding of someone, Bowing or paying Obeisance to the D-type/s, etc.
These help to define the end of a scene and at a public event signals to others that the play space will soon be available.
In private play the 'ending of a scene' is more blurred.
It could just mean an end ... for now.
The are manytimes when there has been an 'end' to a scene, for me, but the start of one for another, which when you play with more than two people could mean that you are play for hours.
Even if you are playing with two people, there can be 'breaks' in order to adjust move, or let the players enjoy their respective head spaces, before ramping it up again.
Generally, from what I have scene at public events, play usually last at most half an hour.

- How intense were your scenes?
I will note that length of time of a scene doesn't necessarily correlate with the intensity or how long you have been in the respective head spaces for.
