Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Monday 25th November 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time.
Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.
VW'S FACTORY RACE TEAMS WILL EXCLUSIVELY DRIVE ELECTRIC CARS
"Volkswagen may have a long way to go before its road-going cars are all-electric, but its racing division doesn't have to wait that long. The German brand has revealed that its motorsport group will drop "factory-backed commitments" to race cars with combustion engines -- it's either electric or nothing." reports engadget: "It's also comparatively easier for VW to pull out of gas-powered racing given its level of investment. VW's motorsport wing is best known for its rally cars, touring cars and not much else. A shift to EVs might be considerably harder for rivals like Mercedes that have deep investments in competitions like Formula 1. For that matter, VW itself still has strong commitments to gas-based racing through Audi and Porsche. This isn't as wholesale a switch as VW implies."
LOTUS EVIJA ELECTRIC SUPERCAR ON THE MOVE FOR THE FIRST TIME
"With Geely planning to put Lotus back where it belongs on the sports car map, there are a lot of reasons to get excited about what the masterminds in Norfolk are cooking up. " writes Motor1.com: "the Evija will go into production next year as the flagship of the rejuvenated British brand. The fully electric supercar made its debut in mid-July, and now it’s time to see it in action during some brief high-speed testing on a private test track. We’re looking at the second engineering prototype built by Lotus likely stretching its legs on the Top Gear track at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey by the looks of it. Only 130 production cars are going to be built, and Lotus says comprehensive validation and initial build process is well underway. It’s targeting an output of 1,973 horsepower thanks to quad electric motors enabling a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in less than three seconds, with another three seconds needed to reach 124 mph (200 km/h)."
THE C8 CORVETTE ZR1 WILL BE HYBRID AND MAKE 900 HP: REPORT
"We first heard this rumor over a year ago now, but a new report says it’s been confirmed that the hottest version of the new mid-engine Corvette will be hybrid, boosting its output to 900 HP." according to Jalopnik: "The electric system will apparently be mated with a twin-turbo V8, the engine that reportedly will power the Z06"
And as per MotorTrend: "Now, we can report from an even higher-placed source that the range-topping C8 Corvette ZR1 will add a performance hybrid system to boost it to 900 hp. Rumors of a hybridized C8 have been flowing for quite some time, but now we have exclusive confirmation from a senior official at GM. The ZR1 will build on the Z06's all-new engine with a performance- (not fuel economy-) oriented hybrid system to fill in torque gaps and increase total output to an even 900 hp."
VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 ELECTRIC CROSSOVER IS THE ID CROZZ CONCEPT, EVOLVED
"As the Volkswagen ID Crozz concept has evolved over time, we’ve gotten a better idea of how the company’s first dedicated EV (e-Golf being a variant of an internal-combustion vehicle) for the U.S. market is shaping up. In short, these new spy shots answer that question thusly: shapely!" says Autoblog: "The ID.4, as we have called it in recent spy shots, is seen here with far less camouflage than we’ve seen in the past. Despite some flourishes that make it look a bit like an Opel, the overall effect is extremely attractive. While it’s subjective, what we’re seeing here is perhaps the best-looking of the ID variants, concept or no. Like all ID variants, it’ll use a version of Volkswagen’s MEB electric architecture. The concept version, the ID Crozz, featured a dual-motor setup and a projected 250-mile max range from an 83-kWh battery. Those specs seem appropriate for a production version, although things may change between now and then."
