Instantaneous Overcurrent and definite time Overcurrent realy

Instantaneous Overcurrent and definite time Overcurrent realy An instantaneous over-current relay is an overcurrent relay which has no intentional time delay for operation. The contacts of the relay are closed instantly when the current inside the relay rises beyond the operational value.

Definite Time Over Current Relay
This relay is created by applying intentional time delay after crossing pick up the value of the current. A definite time overcurrent relay can be adjusted to issue a trip output at an exact amount of time after it picks up.

Overcurrent Relay Purpose and Ratings. A relay that operates or picks up when it's current exceeds a predetermined value (setting value) is called Overcurrent Relay. Overcurrent protection protects electrical power systems against excessive currents which are caused by short circuits, ground faults, etc
