Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the Syrian armed forces’ recent offensive against militants in Idlib region was completely justified, speaking at a joint press conference with his Angolan counterpart Manuel Augusto in Moscow on Monday.
“It was completely legitimate and necessary in terms of achieving the goals set by the UN Security Council on the Syrian settlement,” said Lavrov.
The Russian diplomat added that with Moscow’s support, the Syrian government forces “do not violate any agreements.”
During the press conference, Lavrov also pointed out that Moscow has never floated the idea of incorporating Russia back into the G7 group.
Going on to discuss the conflict in Donbass, the foreign minister stated it is worth seeing how the Ukrainian government will form its position on the Minsk agreements before a possible new summit between the Normandy group countries.
