After speaking with hundreds of people from open houses, door knocking, etc. it shocked me to hear how people’s agents are not properly educating them through the home buying process. Some people said they’ve been speaking with an agent for months, and have not gone through the MOST important step before staring a home search, or don’t know the first step in purchasing a home. 😲 STEP 1: Have you spoken with a lender? Unless you’re going to purchase a home in all cash, it’s important that you are pre-approved, not just pre-qualified, but PRE-APPROVED, before starting your home search for 3 reasons:
① You will know how much you’re eligible to afford.
② Sellers expect your purchase offer to include your pre-approval letter, because it will show that you are a serious, able buyer for their property.
③ You will know if there is anything you’ll need to fix in terms of your credit, debt to income ratio, and so on.
Whether you’re thinking of purchasing next week, or in the next 2 years, it’s never too early to start planning!
