The Hong Kong Flower Show 2017 organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department was held between 10 and 19 March at Victoria Park. This year the theme flower was “Rose” and the theme was “Blossoms of Love”. A signature horticultural event in the territory, the Show impressed flower lovers with garden plots and displays exquisitely crafted with creativity and skill, drawing support from more than 200 horticultural organisations, private firms and government departments from 17 countries. The participating countries including Mainland China, Australia, Estonia, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and United States of America. A series of fringe activities were held during the show period, including music and dance performances, green talks, floral art demonstrations, fashion shows, greening activities workshops, green promotional stalls, guided visits, recreation programmes and fun games. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong’s reunification with the Motherland. To highlight the occasion, floral displays and landscaped gardens in the Show were enhanced with a subtle play of light and shadow to showcase the beauty of the blossoms by night. Visitors were also treated to two brand new attractions, “Floral Marquee” and “Maze Garden”, as well as a great line-up of special evening programmes including “Evening Concert”, “Dance Night” and “Extravaganza”. Favourably received by horticultural fans and the general public alike, the Show reached new heights attracting a record high of over 670 000 visitors in 2017, and again proved instrumental in promoting local interest in greening.
