Article Review: Australia Introduces Character Tests For Men Wishing To Marry Foreign Women

As of the 17th April 2019 the Australian Federal Government has decided to pass new legislation which prevents men from marrying foreign women as easy as it did in the past. Men will now need to pass a character test in order to marry foreign women, obtain a partner or family visa. This law is a perfect example as to how far the state is willing to limit the redproductive options for men. In addition, men will now need to be screened for DV history, histories of angry behaviour or any other criminal convictions before marrying foreign women. These laws raise questions as to how the character of men will be determined by the state. And as to whether or not allegations of DV will be counted under these laws in a post MeeToo era.
