You Aren't Too Busy To Practice Piano (10 Minute Practice Routine)

You Aren't Too Busy To Practice Piano (10 Minute Practice Routine) The title says it all. You are NOT too busy to practice. I know you're not.

Everybody has 10 minutes.

I get it, it's really easy to feel overwhelmed thinking about everything you have to fit into a day. Practicing the piano probably comes at the lower end of your priorities.

But you can do it. The key is not to think of practicing the piano as a big event, but rather to 'trick' your brain by only committing to 10 minutes. Nothing more. 10 minutes each day is enough to get better, and you might find that 10 minutes turns into 20, or 30!

So today I'm going to walk you through the ACTUAL 10-minute practice routine that I use when that's all the time I have. You can take the exercises here and use them to create your own 10-minute routine.

Now you might be thinking -- 10 minutes? But this video is only 7 minutes long!

You'll see why at the end. When I start practicing my song, that's where I'll leave you guys. I don't think you'd want to sit through 4 minutes of me going over a song again and again. You have your own songs to practice. ;)

So here are the sections and their timecodes. I'll also include downloads of EVERY exercise I'm doing so you can practice them at home. AND I'll include a lead sheet download for the song I'm practicing.

You can find ALL of that here (6 pages). And it's all yours to keep -

1. Warmup (Hannon exercise) - 0:56

2. Scales (Major and minor) - 2:07

3. Sight reading practice - 3:07

4. Practice my song (the fun part) - 5:13

So by the end, you can see that all of that took about 6 minutes. I now have another 4 minutes to work on the song that I love -- and that’s the time where you might find your practices going longer than 10 minutes.

But even if they don’t -- you can see that we have worked on our dexterity, scales, hand independence, sight reading, and songs -- in just 10 minutes.

You have 10 minutes, we all do. I would really challenge you to set aside 10 minutes each day this week and try this routine. After one week I know you will already notice a difference.
