Who Exactly is an “African?”

Who exactly is African? Throughout history, Africa was known to many peoples of the ancient world, but it wasn't until relatively recently that the entirety of the massive continent was truly explored and mapped out for the first time, giving insight into the plethora of diverse and fascinating people groups who live there.
