A video on the chain of command of the Roman republican legions and more specifically of legates and tribunes, important figures in the Roman political-military system. In the video we trace a historical profile in the evolution of the profile these "occasional" commanders, observing their links with the senatorial aristocracy, as well as their strictly military role.
Among other things we also talk about their appointment/elective systems, the reform of Rutilius Rufus, their military capabilities and the collaboration with the quaestores and the primus pilus centurion.
