HEMINGWAY SPECIAL / DAIQUIRI
The Hemingway Daiquiri was created at the La Floridita bar in Cuba for Ernest Hemingway. Legend has it that he loved it so much that he always ordered a double, lending the cocktail its nickname of Papa Doble.
INGREDIENTS
- 60mL White Rum ie. Havana Club (2 oz)
- 7.5mL Maraschino Liqueur (¼ oz)
- 22.5mL Fresh Grapefruit Juice (¾ oz)
- 15mL Fresh Lime Juice (½ oz)
- 7.5mL 1:1 Simple Syrup (¼ oz)
METHOD
1. Combine all ingredients into your cocktail shaker
2. Shake with ice
3. Strain into a chilled coupe glass
4 .Garnish with a grapefruit twist
MR HOWELL
One of six Daiquiri variations featured in Brooklyn Bartender by Carey Jones. A smoky variation from the peaty Islay Scotch whisky softened with a rich maple syrup.
INGREDIENTS
- 45mL Gold Rum (1½ oz)
- 15mL Peaty Islay Scotch Whisky (½ oz)
- 22.5mL Fresh Lime Juice (¾ oz)
- 15mL Maple Syrup (½ oz)
METHOD
1. Combine all ingredients into your cocktail shaker
2. Shake with ice
3. Strain into a chilled coupe glass
4. Garnish with a lime wheel
PADDINGTON
PDT in NYC has a bear named Paddington within the venue. David Slape was the first bartender to be hired at PDT and he created this riff on a Hemingway Daiquiri with Paddington’s treat of choice, orange marmalade.
INGREDIENTS
- 45mL White Rum (1½ oz)
- 15mL Lillet Blanc (½ oz)
- 15mL Fresh Grapefruit Juice (½ oz)
- 15mL Fresh Lemon Juice (½ oz)
- 1 Barspoon Orange Marmalade
- 1 Dash Absinthe
METHOD
1. Combine all ingredients into your cocktail shaker
2. Shake with ice
3. Add an absinthe rinse to your glass
4. Strain into a chilled coupe glass
5. Garnish with a grapefruit twist
ROYAL BERMUDA YACHT CLUB
Essentially a tiki-style Daiquiri created by Trader Vic. The simple syrup is substituted for orange curaçao and spiced falernum to intensify the tropical flavors.
INGREDIENTS
- 60mL Caribbean Rum (2 oz)
- 7.5mL Orange Curacao ie. Pierre Ferrand) (¼ oz)
- 22.5mL Fresh Lime Juice (¾ oz)
- 15ml Falernum (½ oz)
METHOD
1. Combine all ingredients into your cocktail shaker
2. Shake with ice
3. Strain into a chilled coupe glass
4. Garnish with a lime wheel
PX DAIQUIRI
The flavour profile of PX sherry consists of dried fruits, spices and molasses. This is a winter-inspired riff on a Daiquiri with a rich, complex twist.
INGREDIENTS
- 45mL Rhum Agricole (1½ oz)
- 22.5mL Pedro XimenΓ©z Sherry (¾ oz)
- 22.5mL Fresh Lime Juice (¾ oz)
METHOD
1. Combine all ingredients into your cocktail shaker
2. Shake with ice
3. Strain into a chilled coupe glass
4. Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg
