The Uganda Tourism board has launched a campaign to promote mountaineering as one of the tourism products in Uganda. The move is intended to attract more domestic and international tourists so as to generate additional revenue for the sector. The UTB chief executive officer Lilly Ajarova is optimistic that the product will increase the number of visitors to thirty five thousand hikers, in a bid to see more revenue spreading out to locals and the national parks. During the campaign launch, a group of local and international visitors hiked Mount Muhabura, the third highest mountain in Uganda, which stands at 4,127 meters above sea level and is substantially steeper than any other mountain in the range.
