You don’t usually see NFL stars get traded in their prime years. This isn’t the NHL or MLB, where teams can offer you a series of great prospects and young players in return.
If anything, NFL teams often prefer to hold onto star players during their best years; using them as franchise building blocks and hoping they can lead them to future success.
But in some cases, an NFL legend was surprisingly traded during the peak years of his career, and often for a minimal return. Sometimes it’s due to cap constraints or contract issues. And sometimes it’s simply a matter of changing the locker room culture.
Whatever the reason may be, it was enough for some teams to send their star players packing during the peaks of their careers – changing the entire NFL landscape in the process.
