Comprehensive Insurance| Insurance Exclusions| CARS24 In our last episode, we told you about the different car insurance available in the market and how comprehensive insurance provides maximum coverage. However, there are a few exclusions associated with it. Picking it up from there, this episode will tell you the exclusions in your Comprehensive Car Insurance plan, so that there are no surprises while claiming the policy.

Ageing of the vehicle – This means if you make a claim, the claim amount will be based on the current value of the car, which would factor in depreciation. So, if the age of the car were between one and two years, the depreciation value would be around 20%.

Damages to a vehicle driven by an unlicensed driver or a person under the influence of drugs or alcohol are also not covered under this policy.

Normal wear and tear is also not a part of your regular comprehensive car insurance. So if you were thinking you should make a claim for mending those minor nicks and snuffs on the wheel covers or changing those light bulbs, think again. Damages that are small in nature or have a smaller diameter, usually lesser than ½" are considered normal wear and tear and are not covered under the comprehensive car insurance policy.

Breakdown of electrical or mechanical parts: Your Comprehensive Insurance won’t provide coverage for mechanical failures or damage caused due to lack of maintenance. For instance, your insurance company will deny your claim if they find your engine was damaged due to low oil/coolant or failure to replace a worn-out timing belt.

Damage to tires and tubes of the vehicle are again not a part of the comprehensive insurance policy. However, if the damage took place due to an accident then you shall be applicable for up to 50% compensation of the cost of tires and tubes.
